Have you ever come across a book in the Bible that you try to read but it seems way too confusing, so you stop and then seem to never go back to it again?
I was like that with the book of Acts.
There was just something about it that was so hard to follow and to know what was really going on at the time.
During my online training that I did for Wycliffe they suggested reading the book of Acts since it talks about the creation of the first church and the first missionaries. When I read this, my first thought was, "Really, why couldn't it be any other book, why Acts?"
Well, I knew that if I was going to read Acts that I was going to have to find a good Bible study to use as I did. I wrote myself a note to look for one and then went about the rest of the lesson.
It wasn't until a month or two later that I was a local book store that has a large selection of various used books that I came across one called
Studies in Acts. It was an older book, but as I looked over it, it seemed like it would be perfect.
I am about half way through the study (I'm taking it slow so I don't miss anything) and I have been so blessed by it. It's amazing and humbling to read and learn what the first Christians had to go through. Now it's hard to believe that this book ever seemed confusing. Sure there will be questions that will still come up, but not as many as there use to be. I am so thankful that God brought this study to me!!
This experience makes me want to go and find Bible studies for other books that I have avoided reading. How about you, what is a book in the Bible that you have been avoiding?
I'm so glad you found that! There is not really a book that I can say I've avoided studying. I still find Revelation a bit daunting. We are studying Galatians right now in Sunday school, and I have to say it is the first time I have loved Galatians. It is obvious to me now that the background is super key in the appreciation of it, and there is more to it than meets the eye. Very rich!
