Village Living

I would like to introduce you to the village of Matukar. It is located along the North Coast of Papua New Guinea north of Madang. It is located about a 5 minute walk from the beach. The language is Pauau. If you would like to look it up here are the coordinates: S 04° 53.801' E 145° 47.136'

Why am I telling you about this village? And why is it so special? This is where my roommate Crystal and I will be living for the next 5 weeks. As part of our training, towards the end we go out and live in a village for 5 weeks. During this time we focus on building relationships and learning more of Melanesian Pidgin - using all that we've learned during the first part of this training course. These villages have been hand picked very carefully and prayed about a lot.

Crystal and I will be living with an older couple. We will be sharing a room in their house.

We are really excited about finally getting to go to the village and can't wait for all the things that we will get to learn and the friendship we will make. While in the village we will be cooking all our own food over a fire, getting our own water from a nearby well and washing our own clothes in the river.
This is where we will do all of our washing.
Where we will get our drinking water.

Some other exciting things about the village are that they do a lot of fishing in the ocean and play volleyball.

Please pray for us as we prepare to go and for our time there. We will not have internet while we are there so you will not hear from me again for awhile. Once I get back I will be excited to share with you stories and pictures.
